Feb 20, 2015 · Let me add to what have been told. There are other log files, for example there is /var/log/secure which also includes failed login attempts. I might be wrong but /var/log/btmp is exclusively used for 'failed login attempts' so you don't have to parse other log files to see someone is doing a brute force method to login.
