Jan 07, 2010 · I have a production built home with a gas fireplace. There is a little key that I have to insert in the wall and turn to turn it on. There are no logs in it, and I read that gas logs are kind of expensive. Can I burn a wood log or a Duraflame log in it? I have no idea what kind of flu it has, but the background of the fireplace is tile, and the chimney is brick.Status: Open

What youâre describing is a free-standing stove used for heat. Prefabricated logs CANNOT be used in this type of system. Duraflame says this specifically on their website: âDuraflame® firelogs are Underwriter Laboratories (UL) Classified for use in zero-clearance manufactured metal fireplaces and are suitable for use in all types of traditional open hearth fireplaces.

Jul 29, 2010 · Yes, a gas fireplace is perfectly safe to burn normal wood in. And you don't have to buy those Duraflame logs, just load in your wood and light the gas for five or so minutes and then turn it off and tend to your nice wood burning fireplace.

We don't recommend adding wood to a duraflame® fire. When you add other materials to the firelog, it can change the characteristics of the burn. For example, duraflame® firelogs are designed to burn one at a time with a controlled burn rate that burns the external surface area of the log slowly exposing more internal fuel as the log burns.

Jan 02, 2008 · Natural gas is very clean burning, and if the burner is properly adjusted, you create very little if any pollution. Duraflame logs are chemically treated paper and sawdust, and put out lots of combustion products when they burn - hence all the pretty colors in the flames.
